23 Dec Dancing with the Stars for Hospice
On Saturday, October 5, eight pairs of community leaders and dance professionals took to the stage for the Inaugural Dancing With the Stars for Hospice event. It was a night to remember as the pairs dazzled audience members with their very best moves. From ballroom to tap, tango to hip-hop, there wasn’t a dull moment at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre that night.
Winners of the “Judge’s Award” Kathleen Yurchesyn and Chris Mkandawire captivated the crowd with a tango to Isla Bonita, and “People’s Choice Award” winners David Dingwall and Cynthia Vokey tapped their way into the hearts of Cape Bretoners, raising more than $65,000 through their votes.
Guest performances by the MacArthur School of Dance, Northside Dance, Concept Creative Dance Centre and the Forrester School of Dance were a treat and kept the excitement high all night long.
Our hilarious judges Anne Frances D’Intino, Carol Beaton, and John Malcom kept everyone smiling, our roving reporter Michele McKinnon got the inside scoop from our performers and our Master of Ceremonies, Laurie Murchison, was a pro on the mic. A big thank you to Debbie Keating and all the volunteers for their tireless work and commitment to making the event a success.
Each of our celebrities and their wonderful dance partners blew us away with their fancy footwork. Not only did these brave folks strut their stuff on the dance floor, but they also raised $200,000 for a new community Hospice Residence!
Thank you to our dancers: Michele Bianchini, Jake Nguyen, Guy LaFosse, Denise Jardine, Kathleen Yurchesyn, Chris Mkandawire, Chief Terry Paul, Lucy Wintermans, David Dingwall, Cynthia Vokey, Amanda McDougall, Jason Han, Mandat Maharaj, Jessica Han, Lee-Anne Macleod-Archer and Gurjinder Singh. And thank you to all those who donated in support of this event. The generosity of our community never ceases to amaze us and we are so thankful to everyone who brought this magical night to life.
