The Hospice Harmonies have been busy getting their voices ready for the Christmas season and have spent several months preparing and recording their first Christmas single titled “The Twelve Cape Breton Days of Christmas.” This group, which meets weekly at Hospice Cape Breton, is made up of patients, volunteers and staff under the direction of music therapist, Jill Murphy. “It was in early fall when the group decided they wanted to write and record a Christmas song, so that’s exactly what we did,” explains Jill. “We brainstormed, wrote lyrics, practiced, recorded and then finally pieced together the video from photos that were contributed by community members. One of our patients proudly stated “I never did anything like this before” after coming from her recording session. Those are the comments that make our projects worthwhile.” This was a true group effort and the Hospice Harmonies couldn’t be happier with the result.
