Hospice Harmonies – Springtime in Cape Breton

Recently a small group of Hospice patients, aptly named the “Hospice Harmonies”, completed writing, recording and performing a special song entitled “Springtime in Cape Breton” as part of their participation in the Music Therapy program with Jill Murphy.

Hospice Volunteer Lorrette Cormier and Palliative Care Volunteer Lead, Lisa McNeil-Campbell lent their voices to the project along with patients Rae (Rachel) MacKillop on piano/vocals and Dina (Rhodeina) Hawco on drums/vocals.

A new experience for both Rae and Dina, family, friends and staff joined them in the launch of the song and accompanying visuals in early June.  Along with writing the song over a period of time, they, and other Hospice patients, judged and selected images to accompany the words in their verses. In fact more than 150 images were submitted for consideration so they took on quite a job to bring the whole piece together.

Both Rae and Dina said it was ” a big moment” for them and they totally enjoyed the experience with Jill.
