In honour of National Hospice Palliative Care Week (May 1-7), the Cape Breton Post is recognizing members of our local palliative care team in Getting to Know features throughout the month of May.
Getting to Know: Anne Morrow
Anne is one of the volunteers with the flower program, which began more than 20 years ago and still has some of its original volunteers. The “Flower Ladies” meet each week, make up small flower arrangements and deliver them to those in the palliative care service.
Hospice palliative care medical services alleviate pain, with an emphasis on comfort and improving life, not curing the disease. Hospice palliative care is an holistic approach. The physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual are treated as needed or desired by the patient.

Legacy projects are special gifts created by patients working with the Society's music therapist Jill Murphy. They tell Jill it offers a sense of accomplishment when they are able to compile memories and messages and tie them together with song or voice and visuals.
It is a meaningful and positive project that provides focus for patients often bringing comfort and peace. They want their voices to live on. They want to know that they will not be forgotten.
